The new Commissioner of Police, CP Nkereuwem A. Akpan has assumed responsibility in Cross River State.

He took over from Austin Agbonlahor who was promoted to AIG. Nkereuwem Akpan holds a Bachelor of Science diploma in Social Science from the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State

In an interactive session with Journalists in his workplace in Calabar on Wednesday, the new commissioner stated that one among his cardinal goals was to curb the activities of criminals within the state.

He stated he’ll encourage neighborhood policing, “I’ll encourage city corridor conferences, wards to local government area conferences, area commands, traditional rulers, heads of communities, and so forth to help the police.

“These teams can hint the origin of crimes and prison hideouts” and called on journalists and various teams to join fingers with the police in the space of giving well timed data that may assist the police to curb prison actions within the state.

Akpan regretted, that as a result of our value systems have been eroded so badly, the society now not checks youths actions. He referred to as on dad and mom to coach and verify the actions of their wards, particularly throughout this yuletide season so as to reduce all types of vices.
